History

Bhaganagar (Bhagyanagar) was the erstwhile name of Hyderabad the capital of Andhra Pradesh. In 1948 during the regime of Nizam Bhagyanagar (Hyderabad) was the capital of Nizam state and even though Urdu was the official language, Marathi was widely spoken language among the districts of Telangana, Marathwada and part of Karnataka which formed the erstwhile Nizam state.

It was during this time that people of Bhagyanagar, prominently the Marathi speaking Maharashtrian community had the privilege of being blessed by Saint Trinity i.e. Shri Keshav Swami Maharaj staying at Jiyaguda. Shri Narayan Swami Maharaj staying at Hussaini Alam and Shri Bhatji Bapu Maharaj (Balkrishnanand Swami) staying at Bhoiguda near Uppuguda.

About Maharaj, his Upasana & Beliefs

A true believer and follower of Bhagvat Dharma, Shri Bhatji Bapu Maharaj lead a simple pious (satvika) life. Practicing the dictates of Bhagavata “Eshwara Sarva Bhutanasm….” was his belief and humane was his style towards all living sentient being.

Upasana through Nadabrahma (Sangeet) was his style in pursuit of Paramathman. Maharaj used the sound of melody i.e. music shastra for singing the praise of The Lord (Nam Sankeertan). He was accomplished singer in Hindustani style of music School of Gwalior. He was known for his “Tappa” a melidential format of musical presentation. His singing helped the listener to experience “The Devine Bliss” of Nadabrahma.

He believed that food hungry (Annadana) is the best means of offerings to the God, the Almighty. He practiced the Eakadasi Vratham which used to culminate in Anna Danam on Dwadashi. The Dwadashi prasadam (Anna Danam) used to be open to all and about 2000 people used to be fed on this occasion. The financial burden of food and other arrangements during Dwadashi never use to worry Maharaj since he firmly believed that the “Karta” (the real doer) in this universe is the Lord Sri Hari, the Lord eternal. Maharaj always desired that the dwadashi vratam should continue throughout his life and even after him. Maharaj willed that the Dwadashi Vratham should continue even after his death and the devotees are carrying this out at the Samsthan even today. Maharaj had surrendered all his belongings and what he had received for this sole purpose.

The other activities at the Samsthan were the organizing of “Bhagvat Saptah” in the month of Ashadh Masa and Nam Saptah during Adhika Massa. Our scriptures have also given supreme importance in the present kali yoga to “Nam Sankeertan”. The tradition of Nam Sankeertan was followed by Maharaj during his lifetime like the “Anna Dana Vratham”.

A soft spoken Maharaj never hurt anyone and believed that harming any living being is hurting / insulting the Lord. He never discriminated between fellow beings on the basis of caste, creed and religion.

The quotations about Maharaj from two famous personalities -

Keshava Belsare : “Maharaj led a simple and pious life. His natural and sincere devotion to the Lord was steadfast amidst the travails of sufferings of a common man. He accepted life as it unfolded with its sorrows and happiness. His day to day life activity was penance in state equanimity”.

Kavishwar : “Maharaj’s life and his daily activities were instruments to the service of Lord goal of Ashtanga Yoga advocated by Patanjali. No wonder that the masses got attracted to him and the followership increased to a very large number.”
